The Irish Turf Club
reviewed jockey Davy Russell’s punishment for punching his horse, Kings Dolly, and increased it — to a four-day ban. Better than the initial caution Russell received, but still a disgrace. In reassessing the case and reaching such a tame conclusion, the Turf Club proved it was reacting without sincerity to public pressure. The sentence had no conviction, no ethical motive and no feeling for justice at all.
