Union barons give Labour £27m

-

TRADE unions have given Labour £27million since Jeremy Corbyn took over the party’s leadership.

The Conservatives claimed the sum proved Labour was now completely in hock to the unions.

Trade union donations over the past two years account for more than half of all money given to the party.

They bankrolled almost the entire Labour general election campaign, official figures show. Tory chairman Sir Patrick McLoughlin said it seemed like ‘a clear case of cash for politics’.

The biggest backers have seen their demands make their way into party policy. They include £11million donor Unite’s nationalisation ideas, and the GMB, Unison, RMT and TSSA’s calls to renationalise railways and public utilities.

Labour said: ‘Our manifesto is full of policies that benefit the many, not the few.’
