Ward: It’s a fight just to get a game

- TOM FARMERY

DANNY WARD believes competition for places in attack will maintain cardiff city’s position near the top of the championship table. This draw against Fulham ended a 100 per cent winning start to the season for Neil warnock’s side, but they remain unbeaten and top of the table thanks to ward’s contribution as a second-half substitute. The striker replaced Kenneth Zohore to salvage a point with his first cardiff goal. Fulham had taken the lead through ryan Sessegnon. it was 25-year-old ward’s sixth League appearance as a substitute this season and he believes waiting for his chance to strike has helped keep him hungry. ‘The competition we’ve got for places in our team is really good and the strength of our squad is brilliant,’ said ward. ‘it’s not just about the 11 on the pitch, we need all of the team. obviously it’s been hard to get games at the moment, but it’s something i can’t complain about given how the boys have been playing. ‘But to come off the bench and score an equalising goal is always a good feeling.’ The point kept cardiff top of the table — where ward, who signed from rotherham in the summer, feels he and his team-mates belong. ‘To go 1-0 down and show the spirit to come back is fantastic,’ he said. ‘it’s always hard coming to places like this. But as long as we keep it going it’ll be a good season.’
