Fly our flag!

-

WHILE watching the Last Night Of The Proms on TV, I was appalled that some people in the Albert Hall were waving EU flags.

The Proms are a British tradition, and the only flags that should be waved are Union Flags.

The irony is the EU flags were waved vigorously during Rule Britannia, which includes the line: ‘Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.’ If we had voted Remain, Britain would have remained enslaved to the EU. Gordon Kennedy, Perth. WHAT a difference between the privileged establishment in the Royal Albert Hall waving their EU flags and the ordinary members of the public thronged into Hyde Park and other parks in the UK to watch the Last Night of the Proms on big screens. I didn’t notice a single EU flag waved during the patriotic songs in the parks. STEPHEN SLINN, Towcester, Northants. WHAT kind of person flaunts the banner of a wasteful, anti-democratic, bullying bureaucracy in preference to the flag of their own country?

These people are too insensitive or just plain stupid to see the incongruity of their actions while singing along to Jerusalem and Land Of Hope And Glory. Fred Mcmanus, Paisley. THE rousing and uplifting Last Night Of The Proms gladdens the heart. The Union Flag is held aloft and waved around enthusiastically.

But this year it was spoilt by supporters of the EU frantically waving their beloved flag and symbol of devotion. And why did the BBC give them so much airtime? ALLAN MULHOLLAND, Doncaster.
