Staying steady on the stairs

-

BLUE Monday,Mond a y, on September 18,18 will mark the start of Balance Awareness Week.

People are being asked to wear blue at work or school and pay £1 to the Menieres Society to support its work helping those with inner ear disorders causing balance problems and dizziness.

Of course, the last place you want to feel dizzy is on the stairs.

That s why, if you are thinking of getting a stairlift, it is vital that it is safe, comfortable and steady.

Stairlifts are usually bespoke — made to measure a particular staircase. They are also rigorously tested. For example, if a staircase requires curved rails, these will be tested for ride quality in the factory before shipping.

A stairlift travels at a safe speed, moving at 0.1 metre per second. So an average one-way trip would take 41 seconds.

And it should come with safetyminded additions, such as armrests, footrests, seatbelts and other reassuring features. These include intelligent sensors that can spot an obstruction and will halt travel so that it can be cleared.

Having a safe, modern stairlift installed could make a real difference to your life if you have balance or mobility problems, or find the stairs too tiring. It will give you back the freedom to enjoy all parts of your home again.
