Brussels’ useful idiots
IS there any more discredited body in this country today than the Confederation of British Industry?
With its demand for Britain to join the euro, its rampant scaremongering in the run-up to the referendum, and its jeremiah behaviour ever since, you would almost think the CBI was a lobby group for the European Union (where many countries are suffering terrible economic distress).
So it’s no surprise that the CBI wants its members to sign up to a letter warning of the potentially dire consequences of Brexit.
Thankfully, there are business leaders who don’t subscribe to its negative view, like JCB’s Anthony Bamford, and Sir James Dyson. The latter yesterday rightly pointed out that leaving without a deal would in fact ‘hurt the EU more than the British’.
Expressing a view shared by a great many small firms, Sir James said Brexit is an opportunity because the rest of the world is growing much faster than the continent.
It’s brilliant, buccaneering entrepreneurs like Dyson and Bamford we should listen to, not the CBI’s faint-hearted appeasers desperate to do this country down.
