Lost industry

-

MORE power for the trades unions under Jeremy Corbyn? I worked for this country’s largest engineering company during the Seventies when the trades unions had such powers.

Shop stewards had more power than managers and the more militant workers showed two fingers to their foremen over the slightest thing.

Not only did they ensure we became the most inefficient workforce in Europe, they handed over most of our industry to overseas competitors. Corbyn should ask his comrades why Britain was once second in the world in building commercial aircraft. Now, all of Europe’s commercial aircraft are assembled in France. BRIAN CHRISTLEY,

Abergele, Conwy. I HAVE every sympathy with lowpaid workers as for many years I was one of them. I would be more sympathetic to any strike being called if the leaders of all the trade unions calling for action donated their very large salaries to the members striking. MRS SUSAN FELLA,

Enfield, Middlesex.
