Injured Hartley could miss England camp
DYLAN HARTLEY has given Eddie Jones an injury scare ahead of the autumn internationals. The England captain has a hand problem and will miss Northampton’s Premiership match with Bath tonight. Jones names an England squad next Friday for a three-day training camp in Oxford which begins on Sunday week. While the knock is not thought to be too serious and Northampton say Hartley will resume training next week, there are fears the skipper may not be fit in time to join up with England. The hooker should make the Tests against Argentina, Australia and Samoa, however, which will be played over three consecutive Saturdays starting on November 11. As Sportsmail revealed yesterday, 21-year-old Sam Underhill will make his Bath debut against the Saints, starting at openside flanker. Bath director of rugby Todd Blackadder wants the Englishman to emulate All Black legend Richie McCaw, who the Kiwi coached at the Canterbury Crusaders. ‘Richie’s preparation was just unbelievable,’ said Blackadder. ‘He wasn’t the most skilful, he would admit that, but his engine was unbelievable. His mental toughness was probably his point of difference. Anyone has the capability to do it, but it’s just whether they have the drive. There’s no doubt Sam can do it. I’m looking forward to seeing him play.’ In the two other Premiership matches tonight, Exeter travel to Worcester, who have selected the heaviest player in league history, 22st 7lb prop Biyi Alo, and Sale host London Irish.
