PICK OF THE DAY
TRIBES, PREDATORS & ME, 9PM, BBC2
THE final episode of this enthralling series finds the wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan in Ethiopia, living alongside one of the world’s least popular and most reviled animals — the hyena. Weighing up to 90kg, it has one of the strongest bites of any animal and a haunting bark that sends a shiver down the spine. Gordon (pictured with Bodi tribeswoman Bibani and an orphaned kudu) is advised to be smart, strong and unafraid of these formidable carnivores — which is, he nervously admits, ‘easier said than done’. But do hyenas really deserve their fearsome reputation, or are they getting a bad press?
