LUCIANO PAVAROTTI’S life was changed for ever after he took on the role of lovesick Tyrolean peasant Tonio in Donizetti’s La Fille De Regiment at New York’s Metropolitan Opera. On that night in 1972, he hit all the top notes, left his audience in disbelief and earned the nickname ‘King of the High Cs’. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the great tenor’s death, AFTERNOON ON 3 (RADIO 3, 2PM) features a 1973 performance of the same opera, with Pavarotti joined by Joan Sutherland.

THIS afternoon, there’s another chance to hear Christine Entwisle’s deliciously comic drama DOYOUWISHTOCONTINUE (RADIO 4 (FM), 2.15PM), which won the BBC Writer’s Prize for Radio Drama in 2014. Melody Grove (pictured) is the fortysomething woman

at the end of her tether who finds resolution in the most unlikely of places.
