Ryanair debacle

-

THE Ryanair fiasco, caused by a backlog of pilot leave, is not a new problem for large organisations.

Years ago, the Civil Service found a solution by making every employee’s holiday leave year begin and end in the month of their birthday.

This stopped the problem of everyone stockpiling their leave until Christmas, with inevitable difficulties in staff shortages, personnel frictions and management headaches.

PETER SMITH, Storth, Cumbria. RYANAIR would not confirm the flight booked to take my ten-yearold granddaughter Elizabeth to compete in the world biathle (runswim-run) championships in Spain this week, so we had to pay £110 for a flight with another airline.

When she has worked so hard to be selected for Team GB, it would have been heartbreaking if she hadn’t made it owing to a cancelled flight. We won’t get a penny back.

JANE HARTLEY, Poole, Dorset.

GREEDY Ryanair. I booked return flights to Tenerife, but didn’t want to pay an extra £20 to select seats.

The printer was not working at the resort internet cafe so we arrived at the airport for our return flight without boarding passes.

We were charged an extra £100 to get on our booked flight, and my partner was seated yards away from me even though the seat in front of me was free.

DAVID HOCKENHULL, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
