Beat THAT Bugs! The 4ft carrot as tall as a 6-year-old PS

WHEN Oscar’s grandfather Simon Smith harvested a carrot from the garden, he wanted something big enough to go with dinner.

But as he pulled, and kept on pulling, he soon realised that – to paraphrase Bugs Bunny – something was up. For at 4ft, the carrot stands as tall as Oscar, six.

Mr Smith, a 53-year-old sales manager from Loughborough, gardens with his grandson, who suffers from autism and is deaf, and said the child was delighted.

He added: ‘You can’t predict what nature will do but we have had an ideal growing season with plenty of sunshine and rain.’

Mr Smith, who uses ground seaweed in his compost, is taking the carrot to the National Vegetable Society championships in Worcestershire, tomorrow. EAT your veg and you could grow up to be like this astronaut-shaped carrot, which is doing the rounds on social media sites
