Power chief who said female bosses have it tougher stands down

-

ONE of Britain’s few female chief executives is stepping down after 12 years at energy firm Drax.

Dorothy Thompson — who was appointed in 2005 — has decided to leave the company by the end of the year and will be replaced by chief financial officer Will Gardiner.

A fortnight ago the mother of two told the Mail how being a boss ‘was much harder for a woman. Keeping the balance with your family is really hard work and very challenging’. The 56-year-old ( pictured) also serves as a non-executive director for the Bank of England.

She has spoken about how female bosses can feel like outsiders, saying: ‘Every now and then, when men talk about football, I’m at a bit of a loss, but they could complain too — if I’m on a business trip with a woman, I’ll go shopping.’
