Koeman’s warning after Rooney shame

- By DOMINIC KING

RONALD KOEMAN has warned Everton’s squad about their off-field responsibilities and the need for a disciplined lifestyle as he drew a line under the Wayne Rooney saga.

Everton fined Rooney two weeks’ wages, amounting to £300,000, after he was given a two-year driving ban on Monday following his arrest for being almost three times over the legal alcohol limit on September 1.

Koeman (right) spoke to the former England captain about the need to look after himself in his free time.

But the manager, who will restore Rooney to his starting line- up against Bournemouth tomorrow, has also had words with the rest of his group. ‘I speak to every player about all the football — on the pitch, off the pitch, and it’s not particular to Wayne,’ said Koeman. ‘It’s all my players. I know the social part of life, the private life, about behaviour and discipline in the team and outside. It’s not more by Wayne or somebody else. It’s the whole picture. ‘I was shocked but we can’t keep going on about Wayne and what happened. I think it’s the end of the story. He’s said enough about this and it’s not up to me to continue talking about what happened with Wayne. Focus on the football, that’s what we need.’
