Longer lorries on roads to cut journeys

-

LONGER lorries could be allowed on our roads after a trial showed that they significantly reduced the number of journeys. In attempts to tackle congestion and cut down on pollution, the Department of Transport began a trial five years ago using nearly 1,800 trailers that are around two metres longer than the maximum 13.6. Results collected from hauliers by data firm Risk Solutions showed that the longer carriages resulted in up to five per cent fewer journeys during the course of the trial. It will now run for a further five years, using up to 2,800 longer trailers.
