Help! Dangly earrings have ruined my ears

- Dr Tracy Mountford

QI HAVE pierced ears and have always loved wearing chunky earrings. I never considered this might stretch my ear lobes. But I’m in my mid-60s and they are noticeably saggy and drooping. Is there anything I can do to repair the damage?

AThe ears, like hands, can really reveal a person’s age. Fillers are a popular anti-ageing treatment for the face — and you can resolve your ear problem in a similar way.

After years of wearing heavy chandelier earrings, you are suffering from over-stretching of the ear lobes. The earrings may look great, but can cause drooping over prolonged periods of time. This results in elongated holes and saggy lobes.

We can address this issue with hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm — a quick fix to plump up the skin of the ear lobe and smooth wrinkles. These are injected around the perimeter of the piercing, to fight loss of volume in the area — but still look natural. The injections also prevent the delicate ear lobes from ripping and provide extra cushioning for the earrings in future. And you’ll be surprised how much smooth ear lobes perk up a tired, ageing face.

This is a quick and relatively painless procedure which costs from £55. There is no downtime and results are immediate.
