Driver mows down teacher who said: No parking here

- Daily Mail Reporter

CAUGHT on CCTV, this is the horrifying moment a driver mows down a teacher who told him he could not use the staff car park.

Rainier Schoeman, 22, sent the teacher flying over the bonnet of his Volkswagen Golf, leaving him with head injuries, and almost knocked two children off their bikes.

Schoeman had gone to Winston Churchill School in Woking, Surrey, to pick up his partner’s daughter.

Teacher Gareth McCarthy had been told to stand in the car park entrance and stop vehicles after the headmistress wrote to parents citing it a risk to children coming out of school.

The video shows Schoeman stopping to speak to Mr McCarthy, who tells him he cannot drive into the car park and then turns his back on his vehicle.

Schoeman then accelerates towards him, throwing him over the bonnet and on to the ground.

Charlotte Morrish, prosecuting, told Guildford Crown Court: ‘Mr McCarthy turns his back on the car and feels the bumper on the back of his legs, making him sit down on the bonnet. Within seconds the car accelerates, forcing him next spoken back thing to on he on to remembersthe the ground. bonnet.is beingTwo The boys entranceon bikes were who narrowly were missed.using the

‘Gareth McCarthy has very little recollection of the event. CCTV evidence shows he is on the ground for some time, clearly dazed. He had a wound to the back of his head which required gluing.’

She said that on a previous occasion Schoeman had driven past Mr McCarthy, who called his attacker a ‘selfish, brutish bully’ in a statement to the court.

Judge Jonathan Davies banned him from driving for two years and five months and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge of £140. The judge told him: ‘It troubles me to hear from probation that somehow you seek to blame Gareth McCarthy for what happened. He was going about his work and the school had every right to restrict access to this car park.

‘You took matters into your own hands by nudging him. It’s horrific watching the video with his head banging on the concrete. You really need to examine yourself and ask why you behaved in that way.’

Investigating officer PC Andrew Searle said: ‘Schoeman’s actions could have had far worse consequences for the teacher, and the children who he narrowly missed.

‘School car parking situations are a frustration for many parents, however if you cross the line there is every chance you can go to prison.’
