A pain in the neck

-

I AM glad that Sam Warburton, the Wales rugby union team captain, is getting prompt surgery for his neck injury.

I was a victim of whiplash last year and am awaiting two operations to replace four discs, fuse my neck and fit titanium rods to protect my spinal cord.

It’s degenerative, so I’ve been told that without surgery I’ll be in a wheelchair in a couple of years.

Unfortunately, the trust dealing with my case has only one surgeon capable of carrying out my operation, and he works part-time.

My GP referred me in February, and I should have been well on the road to recovery by now. Instead, I’m being told I’m in a queue and there are people worse off waiting to be seen.

There’s the added stress of being off work since February (I am no longer being paid), not being allowed to lift anything heavier than 5kg, jar my neck or drive, and trying to cope with the loss of balance and feeling in my hands. Name supplied, Borehamwood, Herts.
