Twerking ad tops complaints list
OFFENSIVE TV ads featuring a twerking businessman in high heels, lesbians kissing, and a mother telling her son about his dead father’s favourite McDonald’s burger have angered viewers the most so far this year.
Yet none of them has been banned by the industry’s regulator the Advertising Standards Authority.
The Moneysupermarket.com ‘danceoff’ showing a man wearing denim cutoffs and heels (pictured) drew 455 complaints, the most of any advert in any medium. Angry viewers said it was overtly sexual and offensive.
Match.com’s ad showing a woman removing her partner’s top and kissing her drew the second highest number from January to June at 293. However, the ASA did not ban them, ruling neither was likely to cause serious offence.
McDonald’s pulled its badly received campaign featuring a mother helping her son grieve while sitting in one of its restaurants. It received 255 complaints.
