You can cut your own risk of cardiovasc­ular disease (CVD) by making a few simple daily changes, such as eating and drinking more healthily by reducing salt and saturated fat in your diet, getting more exercise and stopping smoking.

CVD develops due to a build-up of fatty substances in the walls of the coronary arteries, restrictin­g the amount of oxygen-rich blood getting through to your heart.

Angina is the most common symptom, commonly experience­d as chest pain when you climb the stairs or exercise. If you experience symptoms, you should make an immediate appointmen­t to see your GP.
