PETRA Diamonds sparkled after reporting that its longrunning standoff with the government of Tanzania could be coming to a close.

Tanzania’s government seized an £11m package of diamonds from Petra earlier this month, accusing the firm of lying about their value. The move forced Petra to suspend its Williamson mine in the country.

But yesterday, Petra said it had received authorisation to resume diamond exports and sales from the mine. Shares rose 12.2pc, or 7.75p, to 71.25p.
