FEBRUARY 2, 2017: Asim Khan talked at an event hosted by Oxford’s Islamic Society. He has referred to homosexuality as ‘evil’ and a ‘criminal act’. 3 MARCH 2017: Moazzam Begg spoke at the Oxford Union, legally separate from the university but made up almost exclusively of Oxford students. Mr Begg is outreach director of Cage, a group that called Jihadi John a ‘beautiful young man’.
WARWICK
NOVEMBER 22, 2016: Hamza Tzortzis, an instructor for the Islamic Education and Research Academy (iERA), spoke at an Islamic Society event. He previously stated: ‘We as Muslims reject the idea of freedom of speech, and even the idea of freedom’. He later tried to distance himself from the remark. SOAS NOVEMBER 4, 2016: Abdur Raheem Green spoke at an event hosted by the Islamic Society. He is the chairman of iERA, and was reported in 2009 to have claimed ‘Islam is not compatible with democracy’.
MANCHESTER
NOVEMBER 11, 2016: Dr Siema Iqbal spoke at an event organised by the Islamic Society and Students’ Union. In 2014, she wrote on Twitter: ‘Truce in Gaza? Don’t you believe it! The Jews are shipping around for cheaper bombs.’ She later denied anti-Semitism.
