CHOPIN & FRANCK: Cello Sonatas (Piano Classics PCL59472)
CHOPIN’S Cello Sonata is a little loose-limbed, but cellists love it and the latest is a terrific young artist from Germany, Benedict Kloeckner. He is matched by a fine Ukrainian pianist, Anna Fedorova, and they make light of the difficulties to bring us a marvellously lyrical reading of the Sonata.
Franck’s Violin Sonata, in a cello version by Jules Delsart which the composer approved, makes a splendid coupling. An early Andantino by Franck is a nice extra, and they finish excitingly with Chopin’s Et Polonaise Brillante.
