Corbyn will crash down to Earth like the SNP says Ruth

- By Jack Doyle and Rachel Watson

RUTH Davidson delivered a rousing speech at the Tory conference yesterday, as Theresa May declared the two of them had ‘saved the Union’.

In her barnstorming speech – for which she received two standing ovations – the Scottish Tory leader said Jeremy Corbyn will come ‘crashing down to Earth’ just like the Scottish National Party.

And she warned that the party must ‘unite and fight’ behind Mrs May in order to burst Mr Corbyn’s bubble, as the Tories had done to the SNP in Scotland.

It comes after Miss Davidson led the Tories to take 12 seats in this year’s election, while Nicola Sturgeon’s SNP lost 21 – putting an end to speculation about a second independence referendum.

Last night Miss Davidson was also joined at a reception of Scottish Conservatives by Mrs May. It saw the Prime Minister hold the MSP’s hand aloft in front of a cheering crowd as she declared that the election had demolished the SNP’s referendum dreams.

‘We didn’t have the overall result we wanted but together we saved the Union’, she said.

During her 16-minute speech, Miss Davidson compared Mr Corbyn to Miss Sturgeon, arguing that Labour’s offer to the public amounted to ‘free unicorns’ – and people would tire of him.

‘I have been here before and I can tell you how this story ends,’ she said.

‘I have watched as Nicola Sturgeon sold out rock venues. As she released a line of signature clothing. As she sold foam fingers to the faithful.

‘I’ve read the commentary that said her momentum was irresistible, that everything would be swept before her.

‘Just as the SNP came crashing down to Earth. Just as they lost 40 per cent of their seats in June ... so too can the Corbyn bubble burst.’

However, Miss Davidson – who has been touted as a future leader of the party – said that if the Tories are to succeed in fighting off Labour advances they must pull together behind Mrs May.

She said: ‘We need to get to work right now. We need to stand together.

‘It’s time for us all – all of us – to unite and fight ... for this country we are proud to serve.’
