Web giants ‘must give up names of MP trolls’

-

SOCIAL media giants will be forced to hand over the details of trolls who abuse MPs, under Tory proposals.

Facebook and Twitter will have to create a ‘one-stop shop’ forum for politicians to report threats and abuse.

MP candidates will also no longer have to publish their home addresses over fears they might be targeted.

New police guidance will also be issued to bring those who abuse MPs to justice. Tory Party chairman Sir Patrick McLoughlin outlined the plans in a letter to a committee investigating MP abuse, according to the Sunday Telegraph.

It said that during this year’s General Election campaign there had been ‘unprecedented’ reports of abuse and threats both online and in person, as well as intimidation of family members.
