Trump: Let’s not waste time talking to N Korea

DONALD Trump yesterday said he had advised his chief diplomat not to ‘waste time’ trying to negotiate with ‘Little Rocket Man’ Kim Jong-un.

The shocking tweet came a day after secretary of state Rex Tillerson had called for calm and revealed that the US was talking directly to North Korea about its nuclear and missile programmes.

Mr Tillerson has visited Beijing in an attempt to reassure worried Chinese leaders as the tensions between the US and North Korea escalate.

On Saturday he said the US had ‘lines of communication’ with North Korea and was ‘probing’ the regime’s willingness to talk, adding: ‘[We have] three channels open to Pyongyang. We can talk to them, we do talk to them.’

However, following weeks of trading insults and threats with Kim Jong-un, Mr Trump – who has threatened to ‘unleash fire and fury’ on North Korea – then took to Twitter to fire off further incendiary comments.

‘I told Rex Tillerson, our wonderful Secretary of State, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man,’ he wrote.

‘Save your energy Rex, we’ll do what has to be done!’
