WEDNESDAY BACKLASH
THiS is what is called a response. Sheffield Wednesday lost 4-2 here last Sunday to their city rivals, United. then they lost 1-0 at Birmingham in midweek, a team subsequently beaten 6-1 by Hull. Put it together and Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal was under scrutiny.
Carvalhal delivered an emphatic reply. it came against a Leeds side repeatedly described afterwards as ‘soft’ by their manager thomas Christiansen.
Wednesday scored three, and it could have been six. Carvalhal was a delighted man, brandishing a £20 note and saying: ‘i’d have paid four or five of these to watch that.’
it was a reference to last week when Carvalhal angrily scrunched up a £20 note to show that it retained its value whether it was a bit beaten up or not. that was how Wednesday felt after the Birmingham defeat. When the club chairman dejphon Chansiri was seen briefly on the home bench before kick- off, it looked ominous.
Carvalhal, though, said this was a sign of the chairman’s ‘commitment’ and a display of unity. Carvalhal added that Chansiri was aware of offers from Premier League clubs last season for their
