Farah up for World Athlete gong

MO FARAH has been nominated for the World Athlete of the Year award after his farewell track season. Farah won his sixth world title and is up for the award with South Africa’s Wayde van Niekerk, but there is no space for Usain Bolt. JAVELIN thrower Joanna Blair has been suspended after failing a doping test. The 2016 GB champion had been targeting a place in England’s Commonwealth Games squad next year.

BRITISH men’s tennis no 3 Aljaz Bedene is through to the second round of the China open in Beijing. the world no 50 cruised through in straight sets to see off Marcel Granollers 6-4, 6-2 and set up a meeting with another Spaniard, fifth seed Roberto Bautista Agut. Bedene has won two and lost two against the world no 13.
