Pay up £700 – or leave hotel

-

SOME package holidaymakers were threatened with eviction from their hotels over Monarch’s unpaid bills – despite having paid hundreds for a package holiday months ago.

Matthew Rogers and Carly Wild had staff at their Benidorm hotel knocking at the door of their room on Monday morning. Mr Rogers was ordered to pay £700 – on top of the £1,000 the couple had already paid – or they would have to leave the hotel.

Mr Rogers, 29, from Sheffield, and Miss Wild, 2 , had booked flights and a ten-day stay at the Hotel Avenida with Monarch.

‘We had heard Monarch were going through some issues but never expected to be told we might be kicked out of our hotel months after we had paid for it,’ said Mr Rogers. ‘Luckily I had been paid a few days before so had the money in my account, but that won’t have been the case for lots of people.

‘We are Atol-protected and have insurance but the CAA haven’t got back to us. They have just said we will be given a timetable 48 hours before we leave. Hopefully it won’t put too much of a downer on the holiday.

‘We heard Monarch were still selling holidays five minutes before they announced they were bust – it’s disgusting.’
