DIAL ‘C’ FOR CONFUSED

FOr most people, the idea of being taught to wash-up seems ridiculous — and yet so many of us rely on dishwashers now, that is exactly what the Good Housekeeping institute is doing, publishing its own ‘Sud’s Law’ to help people get it right.

But it’s not just washingup the younger generation needs help with.

i had to instruct my youngest on using the landline after repeated attempts to call me from home had failed.

‘ it just doesn’t work, Mum,’ he said, pointing to the old- fashioned cord telephone on my desk.

‘ Of course it does,’ i replied, and showed him.

‘Oh,’ he said. ‘it never occurred to me that you had to pick up the receiver before dialling.’
