Stop birth apartheid
SOMEWHErE in Cumbria, something called the normal Birth Conference is taking place. The title says it all: ‘normal’ means no painkillers or obstetric intervention.
as someone who ended up having a life-saving emergency C-section, i cannot express how much i resent the implication that i or my child are ‘abnormal’, or that i somehow ‘failed’ in my role as a mother. it’s time we ended this birth apartheid and accepted that every woman is an individual, with different needs and different responses to childbirth.
