Get extra 1pc with online cash Isa deal

-

SAVERS can earn more than 1 pc on an easy-access cash Isa with top payers, but big banks are still offering as little as 0.01 pc.

The best online rate is 1.1 pc from Charter Savings Bank, while in the High Street, Coventry BS pays 1.05 pc. The Coventry deal, also available online, is a flexible account, which means you can take money out and put it back before the end of the tax year without affecting your £20,000 allowance.

Charter Savings Bank is not flexible, so if you replace any money, it counts towards your allowance.

On fixed-rate accounts, Charter Savings pays a top 1.4 pc for one year or 1.65 pc for two.

If you prefer to bank in branch, rather than online, Leeds BS, which has new accounts from Friday, will pay 1.35 pc for a year. It accepts transfers in from other providers.

By contrast, NatWest’s easyaccess Cash Isa pays just 0.01 pc to some savers. Halifax pays as little as 0.05 pc on its Instant Isa Saver or just 0.45 pc fixed for one year.

Santander Isa Saver pays 0.1 pc on balances up to £40,000 and 0.5 pc on higher amounts. Its two-year fixed-rate cash Isa pays 0.55 pc or 0.8 pc to 123 customers.

With Lloyds easy-access Cash Isa Saver, you earn 0.2 pc for the first year, after which it’s 0.05 pc. It pays just 0.5 pc for a two-year fix.
