BARGAIN OF THE WEEK

Marques de Casa Concha Syrah 2015, £10 (normally £13), Tesco THIS moreish wine from Chile’s Maipo Valley shows off the Syrah grape beautifully. Big and bold but with a charm, it’s ripe with layers of black fruit flavours and a delicate lick of liquorice.

WHITE WINE

Pavia Pinot Grigio 2016, £10, M&S A SMART choice, with great fresh lemony flavours. From Italy’s Lombardy, it’s got more meat on its bones than your average PG. Loves food but is also happy with nothing but crisps for company.

FOOD PAIRING: Grilled chicken

RED WINE

Château de Pennautier 2015 Cabardès, £7.99 for Mix Six (£9.99 for one), Majestic A RUSTIC beast from southern France made with grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Grenache. Expect lashings of bramble fruit, plenty of spice and ripe tannins. Like a hug in a glass.

FOOD PAIRING: Sausages and mash

PINK WINE

Pink Port NV, £9, M&S IT’S pink! And port! Think punchy pink wine with sweet strawberry flavours. Goes well with fruit pudding, or as an aperitif with olives. Proof that port really shouldn’t be saved for Christmas.

FOOD PAIRING: Rhubarb crumble
