Paying through the nose

-

ON MONDAY i found myself, along with many others who had booked with Monarch airlines, trying to arrange a flight back to the UK from Majorca at the end of october.

For years, we have flown regularly on that airline back and forth between Majorca and the UK with no problems and all the flights reasonably priced.

We are currently in Majorca, so when Monarch’s demise was announced, we looked online to book a flight home with another carrier.

The prices escalated by the hour, and when i found a suitable flight, the price rose from ¤806 (£714) to ¤964 (£855), even while i was entering my credit card details.

I am ashamed to say i did pay the higher price as i was worried that we would be stranded.

Moments later other, far cheaper, flights became available, so there was no need to have paid the ridiculous amount. greedy airlines are cashing in on people desperate to secure safe passage home.
