SETTING up a lasting power of attorney (letters) does not require a solicitor. the relevant forms can be downloaded from the internet from the office of the Public guardian, and the cost of registering lasting power of attorney has been reduced to £82.

Mine has just been registered and i am a mere 82 years old. Having had problems over my husband’s care when he had dementia, i was determined the same would not happen to me.
