OOPS! FA FACE £10K REPAIR BILL FOR KEANE’S GAME OF THROWS
MICHAEL KEANE apologised yesterday for an incident which could cost the Football Association around £10,000. During a training drill, which also involved Marcus Rashford and captain Harry Kane among others, Keane launched a medicine ball in the air. Amid shouts of ‘heads, heads, heads’ from the players, photographers scattered but one could not escape the heavy fitness ball. It crashed into his camera, damaging the Nikon lens — which can cost up to £10,500. The FA insisted on paying the repair bill for AFP photographer Olly Greenwood. Rashford was pictured with his head in his hands as officials rushed to Greenwood whose camera lens was broken. Everton defender Keane made sure Greenwood was OK and later sought him out at the media centre to apologise. The accident took place during the opening stages of the training session
at Tottenham’s Enfield base. One witness told Sportsmail: ‘The balls were flying around and as Michael threw his high, he realised it was going too far. He shouted, “Heads, heads, heads”. It smashed into the equipment. The guy seemed shocked. ‘Michael came straight over. It was an unfortunate accident. It was good of him to seek out the photographer to make sure he was OK.’
