queen Jilly Cooper, who was awarded an OBE for services to literature in 2004, is now ready for a promotion. ‘I’d be thrilled to bits if I was offered a Damehood,’ she tells me at a party at The Savile Club in Mayfair. ‘Who knows, though. I probably don’t deserve one because I’m not doing very much at the moment apart from trying to write this book about football. But I think it would be a giggle to be a Dame.’
