Rio chief arrest
THE scandal engulfing the International Olympic Committee and officials from the 2016 Olympic Games has escalated.
Rio committee president Carlos Nuzman and his righthand man, Leonardo Gryner, were arrested yesterday, indicted for ‘ corruption, money laundering and criminal organisation’. There are also allegations of bungs of $2million and possession of 16 gold bars. Nuzman is suspected of being involved in vote-buying to secure the Games for Rio.
Brazilian prosecutors said they had evidence that payments allegedly made to secure Rio as host city were in excess of the $2m estimated and at least another $500,000 was paid to the IOC members to secure the rights.
