Downsizing, Mary-style
She swaps £4million, six-bed mansion for £2.6million home that has four bedrooms, an indoor pool and an orangery!
WHEN your Aga is the size of a small bedsit, downsizing is always going to be a problem.
Small wonder then that Mary Berry isn’t going the whole hog in scaling back her home.
At 82, the star has decided to sell her sixbedroom mansion in Buckinghamshire – and move into a £2.6million four-bedroom property, a few miles away in Oxfordshire.
The former Bake Off presenter and husband Paul Hunnings, 85, certainly won’t be slumming it.
Although there is considerably less land, the new home comes with a separate cottage, gym, tennis court and an indoor pool with a giant beach mural. Crucially, however, it isn’t too far from the shops. A source said: ‘Mary is really excited about being closer to a Waitrose, and has already worked out she is only an eight-minute walk away.’
Fittingly, the star recently launched a range of luxury puddings at the store.
Miss Berry’s Buckinghamshire home – set in over four acres and her family home for 29 years – is currently on the market for £4million. Meanwhile, she is busying herself with plans for the new grade II-listed house.
She has already had renovations approved by the local council, including transforming the conservatory into an orangery and the one-bedroom cottage into a self- contained, two-bedroom annexe.
Perhaps the most important change, however, is to the kitchen, with internal walls being knocked down and an extension built – probably to house a new Aga, something the new place doesn’t have.
The star said earlier this year she would ‘loathe’ to live without one.
