Legend Downes dies aged 81
TERRY DOWNES, Britain’s oldest world champion, has passed away peacefully at 81.
Admired for his brave, aggressive style, Downes shares with randolph Turpin the distinction of having achieved a victory over Sugar ray robinson.
Downes, known as the Paddington Express, won his world middleweight title by beating Paul Pender in 1961.
He leaves his wife Barbara, five children and eight grandchildren .
