Legend Downes dies aged 81

TERRY DOWNES, Britain’s oldest world champion, has passed away peacefully at 81.

Admired for his brave, aggressive style, Downes shares with randolph Turpin the distinctio­n of having achieved a victory over Sugar ray robinson.

Downes, known as the Paddington Express, won his world middleweig­ht title by beating Paul Pender in 1961.

He leaves his wife Barbara, five children and eight grandchild­ren .
