Chelsea fans take a stand

- By MATT BARLOW

CHELSEA fans have given their overwhelming support to safe-standing sections in the proposed new stadium at Stamford Bridge. Fans agreed it would improve the atmosphere and make ticket prices more affordable in a survey conducted by the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust. Chelsea have said they will consider safe-standing if the rules are changed, although there are no plans written into the design for their new stadium at the moment. Tottenham are looking at a small safe-standing trial in their new 60,000-capacity stadium opening next year. More new stadiums around the world are being devised with safe-standing in mind. Los Angeles FC will join Major League Soccer next year in a state-of-the-art stadium with safe-standing behind the goal. Chelsea’s new home will come further down the line but fans said their preferred options are Twickenham and Wembley for the estimated three-year period when the Bridge is not available.
