HARRy KA N E believes he is in the form of his life and has told manager Gareth Southgate he wants to play for England against Lithuania tomorrow despite World Cup qualification already being assured. Kane is on fire for club and country, with a stunning 14 goals in his past nine games. on Thursday night he marked his first match captaining England at Wembley by scoring the last-gasp winner against Slovenia that confirmed England will take their place at the World Cup nex next summer. Tottenham face Bournemouth, Real Madrid and Liverpool in the space of eight days after the international b break, but Kane does n not want any respite and fe feels he is in the form of h his career. ‘Maybe it was like this w when I was younger, w when you scored six or se seven a game,’ Kane said. ‘B ‘But probably not in my pr professional career. I feel gr great, every game I ex expect to score and want to score. I just want to ke keep it going. September wa was fantastic for me, ho hopefully october can be eve even better. ‘o ‘of course I want to play eve every game. Every game for England is important. If t the gaffer wants me to play play, I’ll be there definitely, hop hopefully trying to score a few more goals.’

In Kane’s last nine games for club and country, Tottenham and England have scored a combined 23 goals. He has bagged 14 of those — providing more than 60 per cent of the goals.

It is little wonder, therefore, that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola recently referred to Tottenham as ‘the Harry Kane team’. Kane’s goal tally so far this season is equal to that of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

Chelsea defender and England team-mate Gary Cahill lauded the Tottenham striker.

‘I see him being one of the best in the world in terms of form,’ Cahill said. ‘His finishing is unbelievable. He must be gushing with confidence. He must feel like he’s going to score every time he goes on the pitch. Not even one, it’s like, “How many am I going to get today?” He must have that kind of mentality.

‘Going into the tournament, we want everyone to have the kind of confidence he’s showing at the minute. The fearless mentality.’

Kane, who is now favourite to be England’s captain at the World Cup, insists he can handle the growing expectation.

‘It doesn’t really bother me to be honest. It doesn’t distract me from what I need to do and getting ready for every game. Hopefully I can keep performing and improving.’
