I use Bisto at home, admits Michelin chef
ONLY last week he joined the elite club of chefs to be awarded Michelin stars for two of their restaurants.
But back home, it seems, Tom Kerridge is just like the rest of us. The 44year- old TV chef, pictured, has confessed that he has never made a stock from scratch at home – and instead relies on super-market-bought cubes or granules.
Speaking at Cheltenham Literature Festival, he sang the praises of store cupboard essentials including Bisto gravy, stock cubes and instant coffee. Kerridge, who runs two Michelin-starred gastropubs in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, said: ‘You see chefs on TV making their chicken stock at home – I’ve never made chicken stock at home. There’s brown sauce, red sauce and chicken Bisto at my house.’
Kerridge’s second pub, The Coach, was awarded a Michelin star last week, joining The Hand and Flowers, which has two.
