1 in 4 don’t take leave to grieve
ONE in four Britons do not any take time off work following a death in the family, a poll reveals.
Ten per cent took a day’s leave while 65 per cent chose to spend two or more days out of the office.
Nearly a third of those asked said employees should be entitled to at least three weeks off work after the death of their partner or child.
But they cited ‘job worries’ and ‘too much to do’ as reasons for heading back to their jobs so soon after a death.
Debbie Kerslake, of Cruse Bereavement Care, said: ‘You simply cannot go back to work straight after a significant loss and act as if nothing has changed.’
The poll of 2,000 workers was carried out by funeral service firm CPJ Field.
