IT’S KANE AGAIN!
Harry wins it to make case for armband
HARRY KAne delivered another hero’s contribution for england with the only goal against Lithuania — and all but secured his position as captain.
The Tottenham striker fired home from the spot as Gareth Southgate’s side ended their World Cup qualification campaign with a 1-0 win.
It was his seventh goal in six international matches and Southgate said of his temporary captain: ‘Harry has a fantastic record. His finishing quality is top, as good as anyone I’ve played with or worked with.
‘I couldn’t be happier with the way he’s led, both by example on the pitch with his performances, but also with the group. I know everyone wants me to get a shift on (with picking a captain), but I want to give myself time.’
There was heartache for Scotland as a 2-2 draw in Slovenia ended their play- off hopes — and ensured northern Ireland secured a berth even before their 1-0 defeat in norway.
