A NEW DAWN
Fans barely recognise star as she turns 60 with slimline look and radical makeover
SHE had already amazed fans recently with her incredible weight loss.
And now Dawn French has left them in awe again – this time with her youthful appearance.
Viewers said they barely recognised the comedian as she unveiled an elegant new look for a TV interview on Monday night. And as she revealed in the programme that she is turning 60 today, many expressed their disbelief online.
Miss French – whose weight fluctuated for years and who was once 19 stone – has kept the pounds off and remained more svelte in recent months.
She showed off her slimline physique in a flattering black dress for her appearance on The One Show, while her complexion was enviably smooth and glowing.
The star also unveiled a new hairstyle, which likely contributed to her look sur- prising viewers. For years she has had a bob hairstyle with a neat fringe, but this week she was sporting glossy locks flowing down from a side parting.
Many fans praised Miss French’s new look on Twitter, with one posting ‘totally didn’t recognise Dawn French on The One Show, wow’, while another added: ‘Dawn French looking gorgeous on the One Show. 60! #gogirl.’
Others spoke of their surprise about her age. One viewer said: ‘How on earth is Dawn French 60 this week?! Being young at heart obviously shows on the outside as well. Happy Birthday Dawn.’
A second added that she was an ‘inspiration, looking incredible for her age’.
Three years ago the Vicar of Dibley star – who was on the BBC1 show to promote her new book Me. You. A Diary – lost seven and a half stone ahead of a hysterectomy in order to speed up the recovery time.
She did it healthily through overhauling her diet and exercis- ing weighthas Meanwhilemorean afterwards.adopted– and the continued daughter, comedian, to Billie, who lose with Henry, her has alsoex- husbandspoken out Lenny about family life, saying that parents shouldn’t try too hard to be their children’s friend.
She told BBC Radio London: ‘ I think it is great if you are friendly with your kids, and if they lean on you for all kinds of friendly things – but I am not her [Billie’s] friend. Her friends need to be people who are her age. I think it is a mistake – and it is only my opinion – to try to inveigle yourself into their lives. ‘ What they need is strong teachings from a parent who is not afraid to be a parent and say “No” and lay down the law of that family and put the boundaries in place. ‘If I were to do it again I would be massively Victorian. I mean that as a joke but I would set even stronger boundaries as… I was a little too liberal.’
