ASTONISHING ‘peace’ rumours swept through Berlin yesterday that the British cabinet had resigned in favour of Sir Oswald Mosley and the King had abdicated. Workers rushed into the streets laughing and embracing over the ‘great news’. Stocks rocketed on the stock exchange. It was followed by gloom on learning the news was false.

THE Queen has bruised her legs deerstalking at Balmoral. Said a court official: ‘You can’t spend two months stalking on the Scottish hills without this sort of thing happening. The bruises are not troubling Her Majesty at all.’
