FLATPACK furniture giant Ikea has posted rising full-year sales and revealed that it now owns more wind turbines than stores as it moves a step closer to becoming ‘ energy independent’.

Group sales for the year to August grew 3.8pc to £30bn as 817m customers walked through its doors. Ikea also saw 2.1bn visits to its website.

Its total number of wind turbines also rose to 415 while it operates 355 stores in 29 countries.

By 2020 the Swedish giant wants to produce as much renewable energy as is consumed by its operations.
