Gucci to ban use of fur next year
ANIMAL campaigners yesterday hailed a ‘game- changing’ decision by Gucci to stop using fur. The Italian fashion house will make the changes from its springsummer 2018 collection and auction off all of its remaining animal fur items.
It means Gucci will no longer use mink, coyote, raccoon dog, fox, rabbit and all other species specially bred or caught.
Chief executive Marco Bizzarri told a London College of Fashion event: ‘Being socially responsible is one of Gucci’s core values, and we will continue to strive to do better for the environment and animals.’
Humane Society International welcomed the ‘compassionate decision’, but the International Fur Federation said the ‘environmental reasons make no sense’. It added: ‘Fur is the most natural fashion item. It comes from nature and lasts for decades.’
