Man shouted ‘I am Saddam Hussein’ after rape, jury told
A MAN who raped a woman after watching porn videos on his phone shouted ‘I am Saddam Hussein’ to police who came to arrest him, a court heard.
Abdel-Aziz Al-Shamary, 21, refused to speak to female officers, yelling: ‘I do not speak to women. In my country we speak to men.’
The court was told that he had watched porn beforehand while getting drunk on Jack Daniels whiskey.
He followed a woman as she left The Greyhound pub in Darlington, County Durham, pushed her down on a river bank and punched her in the face before raping her, it is alleged. His victim, in her thirties, was left sobbing at around midnight, Teesside Crown Court heard.
Passer-by Natalie Curry saw the woman as she drove past and stopped to help, by which time Al-Shamary had fled, the jury was told.
Miss Curry said the victim screamed that he said he would kill her if she told anyone about the attack.
Al-Shamary allegedly became enraged when female police cornered him, yelling: ‘Do you know Saddam Hussein? I am Saddam Hussein.’ PC Jackie Mallows told the court: ‘He kept telling me not touch him and he also said, “I will not speak to you, you are a woman. In my country we speak to men”.’
Al-Shamary, of Darlington, denies rape on May 16 this year. The trial continues.
